Cell Phones For Soldiers Program

More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas and are away from their families. Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park, in conjunction with Veterans & Family Memorial, is calling on Saint Johns County residents to support these brave men and women by donating old cell phones so they may stay connected to their families.

Phones can be dropped off at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, Saint Augustine, Florida 32084. For directions, please call (904) 824-1672

"We are proud to support U.S. troops and to assist a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers," saig Gus Craig III, of Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park. ''We understand the value of families, and this is just a small thing we can do to help connect loved ones overseas.'' The Cell Phones for Soldiers Program was founded by teenagers Robbie and Brittany Bergquist of Norwell, Massachusetts with $21 of their own money. Since then, the registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization has raised nearly $1 million in donations and has distributed more than 500,000 pre-paid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas. The donated phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each phone, enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. Approximately half of the phones ReCellular processes are re-conditioned and re-sold to wholesale companies in over 40 countries around the world. Phones and components that cannot be refurbished are dismantled and recycled to reclaim materials.
