Bertram Hernandez

January 12, 1928 - December 29, 2021

Bertram J. Hernandez age 93 of St. Augustine, FL passed away December 29, 2021 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. He was a native Minorcan and lifelong resident of St Augustine. He spent his early years fishing and swimming along the bay front. He graduated from St. Joe and married his high school sweetheart, Patsy, and wife of 73 years. He spent many years as a life guard on St. Augustine beach and became the corps Assistant Director and carpenter as a part time job. He developed and made one of a kind mobile life guard towers on boat trailers that were used for many years. He retired from the accounting department of the Florida East Coast Railway where he operated 1st generation computers. He was a member of the Cathedral-Basilica Parish. He was an avid fisherman and loved sticking huge flatties, harvesting oysters, running his crab traps, casting for shrimp and shooting marsh hen. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and role model to all who new him. He is survived by his wife, Patsy (Cunning)daughter Patty Ann Lopez (Charlie) son Rick (Luie) son Doug (Toni) son Norman (Pam) and daughter Cecilia Huffman (Bernie). He has eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Bert Hernandez Sr. , mother Gertie Masters Hernandez and brother Bobby. Special thanks to Community Hospice and Flagler Hospital. Their care was exceptional. Funeral services and burial will be private.
