    October 26, 1938 - October 1, 2021

Dr. Bruce R. Hammond, age 82, passed away at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL on Friday October 1, 2021. Bruce was born in Buffalo, NY to Donald and Cecilia Hammond. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Sharon Burrows of Buffalo, NY. Bruce held degrees from Fredonia State College, Canisius College, and a doctorate from the University of Buffalo. While serving in the Army, he developed a love of food and travel. He had a wealth of work experiences throughout his life including that of a musician in the bands "The Playboys" and "The Graduates," a professor of business and communications for Canisius College, Jacksonville University, and St Leo University, a business consultant for Kaset International and Achieve Global, and he also worked for many years as an independent business consultant. Bruce was an avid philanthropist who took joy in helping others, especially animal charities and the local homeless community. He held leadership positions in his church and sat on many organizational boards, including the South Shore Symphony Orchestra in Tampa, FL. In his free time, he loved the arts including painting and writing, publishing several novels himself. He loved to travel the world and enjoy its cuisine, both from the dining table and in the kitchen. He loved life and wanted to experience all that it had to offer. Bruce is survived by his son John Hammond (Jamie) of Louisville, KY, his daughter Vanessa Hlavaty (Sean) of St Augustine, FL, and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Rebekah, and Remi. Additionally, Bruce is survived by his siblings David Hammond (Priscilla) of San Antonio, TX, Lynne Manning (Johnny) of Kenmore, NY, and Bonnie LaRotonda (Joseph) of Williamsville, NY and their children. A visitation will be held for Bruce in Buffalo, NY on Saturday November 13, 2021, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM at Amigone Funeral Home, 5200 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221 with a short memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Society of Florida, Florida Greyhound Rescue, and the South Shore Symphony Orchestra.
