Emma Entwisle Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Emma Jean Entwisle, age 92, of St. Augustine, died August 7, 2020. She was born March 9, 1928, in Morrilton, Arkansas daughter of the late Charles and Altha May Nelson. Jean led an interesting life. As a young teen, her family left their home in Oklahoma during the "Great Depression and Dust Bowl" to find jobs in Tennessee. She was one of 30,000 workers hired to work on the pilot program of the Manhattan Project. Later her father was called to Washington, D.C. to report for duty in W.W. II, which is where she met her future husband, Robert Entwisle. Jean was always very civic minded, and she did a lot of volunteer and charity work. Some of her activities were noted in the Miami Herald Newspaper, for instance the time she was a participant for the mothers' March of Dimes trial run to figure out how many steps 12,500 women would need to walk to cover 9,640 miles. She held the position of Vice President of The North Shore Heights Women’s Club. She also had a significant impact on many young girls and boys through her leadership roles in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. And we cannot forget the fun she had as a member of the Red Hat Society. Jean was passionate in her love of country and continued to volunteer on various projects associated with the National Guard family outreach well into her 80's. Jean was strong willed, determined and hardworking. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Her home was the neighborhood headquarters for a cup of coffee, a good laugh, and a chat. All who knew her loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and loving ways. She is survived by her son Robert C. Entwisle (Katherine) and her daughter Susan Perryman (Mitch). Grandchildren: Lynda Stewart, Elizabeth Cunningham, Laura Cicilia, Pamela Entwisle, and Patricia Hunnell. Great grandchildren: Justin Perryman, Kayla Ballard, Emma Jean Cicilia, Hannah Cicilia, Charlotte Cunningham, Miranda Siebert, and Savannah West. Great, great grandchildren: Jayden Siebert, Holden Siebert, Emma Krezenar, Madison West, Mackenzie West. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. For safety face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to her church, Riverdale United Methodist Church, 1028 County Rd 13 South, St. Augustine, FL 32092.
