Jeannette Wells Cooksey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jeannette Wells Cooksey, 88, went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2022. She was born in 1934 to Leon and Grace Williams of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Jeannette was predeceased by her parents, brothers Leroy and Leon Williams, husband of her children, William (Billy) Wells, who died in 1998, and later in life, Edgar Cooksey, who died in 2015, and sister- in- law Nancy Williams. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Leonora Miles, two sons William W. Wells III (Tonya) and Richard E. Wells (Velda) all of St. Augustine, six grandchildren Jennifer Clay (Tim), Martin Miles (Amanda), Richard Wells Jr. (Chyenne), Wesley Wells (Amanda), Victoria Barrett (Allen), Benjamin Wells (Brittney), 18 great- grandchildren, one great- great- grandson Levi, two brothers Robert Williams, Carroll Williams (Susan), and one sister Grace Anne Gillikin (Clayton). She was such a generous person and gave so freely of her time serving with many organizations in her community such as: St. Johns County Overall Cooperative Extension Advisory Committee, St. Johns County Ag Center Building Committee, St. Johns County Homemakers Committee, St. Johns County Library Building Committee and Friends of the Library, SAHS Band Boosters, and SAHS Sports Club. She also influenced so many young people’s lives with her countless hours of involvement as a 4-H leader, also being involved in the Florida 4-H Centennial Celebration Committee. Some of her favorite activities included reading, traveling, gardening, playing volleyball, bowling, painting, sewing, and especially clogging, which she included anyone who was willing to join her. Some of her happiest times were when she put on her clogging shoes and performed with some of her best friends and family in Sugar Foot Family and Ancient City Clogging Clubs. Jeannette’s greatest joy and passion was spending time with and cooking for her family for as long as she was able. Family traditions and gatherings was her pride and joy. She was an excellent cook and many of our favorite memories included being at her kitchen table. She also loved attending any activity her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved in. She never missed any of their birthday parties or special events. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed! “Every day you walk this earth you are surrounded by people. Some just pass by, and some will forever change your life. Grandma was that person” - Martin. Her visitation will be held Monday evening, July 25, 2022, at Craig’s Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 10:00 am at Turning Point at Calvary Church, SR 16.
