John (Jack) Knee

John Clevenger "Jack" Knee passed away on December 8, 2021 in Gainesville, FL at age eighty-eight. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Jack joined the Marines after high school graduation and was a Korean War Veteran. At Robert Morris University, on the G.I. Bill, he majored in accounting and then married Carole A. Karcher in 1956. Upon graduation he, passed the CPA exam and was employed with CPA firms then with the IRS for 30 years and after retirement, had he had his own tax practice. Jack's career took him to Washington, DC, Fort Lauderdale and Northeast Florida. Jack was always actively involved in volunteer activities. When the children were young it involved sports, church, band parents and homeowner associations. When the children were raised he spent over 28 years volunteering with Community Hospice of Northeast Florida as well as church activities. Jack enjoyed fishing trips to the Florida Keys with his children and, later in life, baking cookies with his grandchildren. An avid book reader, he also traced his family genealogy back to the 1700’s Germany and made new acquaintances with distant relations. Jack is survived by his wife of 65 year, Carole, sons John, Jr (Shara). of Concord, NC; Michael of Decatur, GA; Daniel (Jenee) of St. Johns, FL, Jeffrey of Gainesville, FL, and daughter Dana Block of Keller, TX; grandchildren Caroline Knee of Madison, WI; Andrew Knee of St. Johns, FL; and Jackson Block of Keller, TX. Family will receive guests at Craig Funeral Home, St. Augustine 5:00PM -7:00 PM Wednesday January 5, 2022. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra (Nocatee) on January 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM, followed by entombment with military honors at San Lorenzo Cemetery, St. Augustine at 4:00 PM In lieu of flowers, memorials may be payable to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or his church, St. John Paul, II Catholic Church.
