A pedestrian on the walk of life. Patti McLemore Canada died on May 11th two days after her 89th birthday. She was born on May 9, 1933 to John W. Canada, Jr. and Patti McLemore in Knoxville, Tennessee at the University of Tennessee. She graduated in 1954 from the University of Arizona with a BA in philosophy and a minor in psychology. After graduation, she started a career as an airline stewardess. At that time, you had to be a licensed nurse, college graduate or speak foreign languages to be a stewardess. After a short time with Braniff Air Ways, she spent the remainder of her 35-year career with Pan American Airways and attained the position of in-flight director. She loved her job and it allowed her to travel the world. At 55, she retired to care for her ailing father in St. Augustine, Florida, where she continued to live. There she spent an active life volunteering for the EMMA concert association, the Limelight Theatre Guild and the First Coast Opera to name a few. She was especially well known for organizing the annual fundraising events, food affairs and galas. She was also a member of the EWLI, a professional women’s group and the St. Augustine Historical Society. Patti never married and had no children of her own. Her parents and her sisters Mary Jensen, and Joan Canada preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Dave Jensen, her niece, Cynthia Chapra and her four nephews, Michael Kiessig, Jeff Kiessig, Eric Zala and Kurt Zala and their children A celebration of her life will be held at the Craig Funeral Home from 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, June 11th.
