    Virginia Parkhill Danford

    May 26, 1929 - April 24, 2021

Virginia Parkhill Danford was born in St. Augustine to Lucille Banta Parkhill and William B. Parkhill in 1929. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1947 and Florida State University in 1951. Always an adventurous woman, after graduation she launched her career as a social worker for the YWCA in Springfield, Ohio. After a year, she transferred to Troy, New York, where she met her true love, Edward Earl Danford of Denver, Colorado. They were married in 1953 and had four children. She loved life and had an adventurous spirit. Her husband’s career took the family to Florida, Mississippi and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Through her association with the Berkshire Garden Center, she became an avid gardener and herbalist. After her husband’s passing, she returned to St. Augustine, where she was very involved in the Woman’s Exchange, the Camellia Garden Club, and Friends of the Library. Known for her radiant smile, she never met a stranger. She has left fond memories in the hearts of hundreds of people in Pittsfield, St. Augustine and Lexington. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her husband and three grandsons, she is survived by her children, Shennan (Darrell) Hutton, Caroline Danford, Dan (Phyllis) Danford, and Steve (Sarah) Danford, her grandchildren, Josh (Judy) Hutton, Ellen, Claire, Erin, and Julianne Danford, and Alex Klybas, and her great-grandson, Cameron Hutton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Woman’s Exchange of St. Augustine. For those unable to attend the services will be live streamed.
